About Dr. Rafferty
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in New York City.
I am particularly interested in professionals who are suffering from depression, anxiety, emptiness, shame, or anger resulting from stress and dissatisfaction with career and relationships. As an artist and writer myself, I have a particular interest in working with artists and creatives of all types, helping to unlock and understand your imaginative potential. I also specialize in the interaction of how gender roles and stereotypes affect our unique selves.
My practice focuses on Relational and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I have advanced training in Relational Psychoanalysis, working with Attachment Disorders and Personality Disorders. My approach to treatment is interactive, emotionally attuned, and mindful. I am keenly interested in your attachment to family and significant others.
I earned my Ph.D. from The New School in Manhattan, New York City where my research focused on Attachment Theory as well as how personality disorders affect memory. I completed my doctoral internship at Lenox Hill Hospital which is ranked most competitive in North America. I completed my post-doctoral fellowship at Northwell Health's The Zucker Hillside Hospital where I specialized in the treatment of first episode psychosis, severe mental illnesses, and emergency crisis resolution. I currently serve as a Clinical Associate at The New School’s Safran Center for Psychological Services as a supervisor for graduate students in training.
I have experience in a variety of clinical settings including many years within inpatient psychiatric hospitals, community mental health treatment centers, and private practice.
